Kathmandu : Elephants in the Fog (Tiniharu), directed by Abinash Bikram Shah, is now showing in cinemas across Nepal from September 4 following its acclaimed run at the 2026 Cannes Film Festival. The film won the Jury Prize in the Un Certain Regard section at the 2026 Cannes Film Festival, marking a significant moment for Nepali cinema on the international stage. Ahead of its theatrical release, special screenings organized by the Zonta Club of Kathmandu and the film’s production team also helped raise funds for those affected by the recent floods.
Proceeds from the screenings are being contributed to the Prime Minister’s Natural Disaster Relief Fund, supporting families and communities as they begin to rebuild. For a film that speaks so closely about community, belonging and the people we choose to stand beside, the initiative adds another layer of meaning to its journey in Nepal. Set in a Nepali village surrounded by forests and wild elephants, Elephants in the Fog follows Pirati, the matriarch of a Kinnar community, whose world changes when one of her daughters goes missing.
What begins as a search unfolds into a deeply human story about love, freedom, responsibility and belonging. The film marks Shah’s feature directorial debut and was selected for Cannes’ Un Certain Regard section, where it went on to receive the Jury Prize. After being celebrated on the international stage, Elephants in the Fog is now ready to meet audiences across Nepal.
Elephants in the Fog is now showing in cinemas nationwide from September 4. Audiences can experience the Cannes Jury Prize-winning Nepali film on the big screen at their nearest theatre.
